Safranine
Nuclear stain used as a counterstain or to stain collagen yellow. It is a general stain to show nuclei and cellulose membranes (PB.5295). It can be used with Astra Blue (PB.5289).
Why stain preparations?
The main reason preparations are stained is to enhance the visualization of the cell or certain cellular components under the microscope. Cells can also be stained to highlight metabolic processes or to differentiate living cells from dead cells in a preparation. Cells can also be submerged in a stain to determine biomass in an environment of interest.
