Celestron T-adapter SCT

T-adapter for SCT

In brief

  • The Celestron T-adapter allows you to attach an SLR or DSLR camera to a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope for prime focus photography.

  • Attaches to the rear of Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes.

  • The T-threads accept brand-specific T2 rings for the camera (sold separately).

This robust metal T-adapter is the accessory of choice if you want to attach an SLR or DSLR camera to the rear cell thread of a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope for prime focus photography.

Usage

To get started, you will need the appropriate T2 ring for your camera (Nikon, Canon EOS, etc.). Remove the lens from your camera and attach the T2 ring in its place. Since the T2 ring is brand-specific, it will click into place like the lens.

Next, remove the diagonal and visual connector from the rear of your telescope's database. Screw the Celestron T-adapter onto the thread at the back of the telescope until it is securely fastened.

Then screw the T2 ring and the camera onto the T-adapter. That's all there is to it. The camera now uses your telescope as a giant telephoto lens. The magnification depends on the focal length of the telescope. For example, a 300 mm camera lens is considered quite powerful, isn't it?

Well, if you are using an 8-inch SCT at prime focus, you have a 2000 mm lens with a great light-gathering ability!

Prime focus photography

Prime focus photography is popular for short exposure images of terrestrial objects as well as celestial objects like the Moon. If you want to take longer exposures of deep sky objects with this method, we suggest using a separate guide scope or an off-axis guider and an equatorial mount.
