The friction keeps the telescope in place. You simply aim the telescope at the desired celestial object without having to loosen a single screw. Thanks to the friction, the telescope maintains the pointed position.
The AP mount allows you to hold your telescope with a secure and stable grip. Thanks to the friction mechanism, the mount can be quickly oriented towards the desired object.
