The telescope's optics:

The proven Sky-Watcher Evostar-100ED doublet apochromatic refractor has undergone several remarkable improvements. We are pleased to present the new Evostar-80EDX model, which has benefited from a series of very useful mechanical enhancements. It comes in a beautiful white/green finish. The Evostar-80EDX is an excellent instrument for both visual observation and photographic use with all necessary accessories.

The new EVOSTAR-100EDX model now includes a 2.8-inch indexed focuser tube with an integrated 360° rotating adapter, a retractable dew shield, and a convenient carrying handle.

It features the same proven f/7.5 optics as the previous model, which includes a premium Japanese Ohara FPL-53 ED glass lens that eliminates visible chromatic aberration. The 0.85x focal reducer/field flattener (20236) is available as an option for photography.

The optics provide stars with great sharpness against a pitch-black sky and very high contrast. Each glass-air surface is coated with an exotic metallic treatment that allows for impressive light transmission of 99.5%. Sky-Watcher's proprietary “Metallic High-Transmission Coatings” (MHTC) is among the most precise anti-reflective coatings in its class.

Apochromatic refractors, thanks to their unobstructed diffraction patterns resembling those of text, produce the sharpest optical image and the best possible quality for this aperture among all available optical systems.

For a long time, Evostar-ED doublets have been the best choice for photographic refractors for many astrophotographers, thanks to their combination of excellent image performance and affordable pricing. Due to the use of minimal glass in their construction, they are typically lighter and therefore more comfortable to transport than comparable triplets or other multi-lens ED refractors with this aperture.
